We recently had an insurance problem. A company we have been with claim free for 10yrs began playing games to get us to drop their insurance. A check of the Internet proved that they are no longer insuring in Calif., are based in Boston, and are experts at never "getting back to you." We decided to just obtain a homeowners policy with another company as we comply with all of CalFire's requirements for defensible space and always maintain our home in a safe manner. We are on a paved country road, in a level area, have a hyrdant 100ft from our front door and have a mutual water dist. with large holding tanks with generator back-up. We are within the required 5 miles of a fire station and have both a local volunteer company and year-round coverage with CDF. Surprise!!! ISP has recently reclassifed our area with a value of 10 and insurance is almost impossible to obtain - at least insurance at an affordable price. Thanks to this website we are contacting our local fire department and intend to work with them to see what can be done to improve our numbers.
