My advice to you is to start doing your research about your local fire department and their abilities.

You can always check in with I.S.O. to see about your local departments rating. Check them out at: http://www.iso.com/

If you need further help, please call Firescape at (707) 894-2008 or continue on this blog for more conversation.

It hasn't happened yet, but the Washington County Board of Commissioners has decided to award a contract to an unrated Fire Department, with an incomplete roster, not in the neighborhood, as the prior one, and to a department may not even own a truck! So not only do we lose our Insurance coverage or our rates go up, but our Property taxes will go up as well because they don't own a building, a truck, and as of now, they are posed to take over November 29, 2009, and don't even have a roster. Plus you mentioned vegetation! Well, I have asked the Washington County Emergency Management to do something about that. We have environmental overgrown buffers that are so far out of hand that if (no when) they catch fire, there is no way a small volunteer fire department coming from somewhere -- don't know where -- will be able to stop the monster. That is why is is supposed to be PREVENTION! These people are a sad excuse of what the word EMERGENCY is supposed to entail ...
